Located close to Nestroyplatz U1 U-Bahn, Balthasar’s motto is ‘we love coffee’. Well, I loved it too! Balthasar pops up on many of Vienna’s ‘best third wave coffee shops’ for a reason: their passion for quality coffee is served up in every cup.

Accessibility

Just one step up and you enter a small but sleek interior. Indoor seating options are rather limited but you’ll still fit in with your stroller. The main attraction here is the larger patio in front where, when weather permits, you can people watch and take in the busy Praterstrasse. Your kids might just enjoy doing the same.

Bites

There is a mouth-watering selection of decedent pastries (almond, chocolate, vegan options) and cakes. Probably too sweet for the little ones so pack their snacks! While I didn’t see any sandwiches, their website says they sell them.

Kid friendliness:

Sadly, Balthasar does not offer high chairs or a changing table, which we of course find rather unfortunate. Nevertheless, the overall atmosphere felt quite “child-friendly” (which, let’s be honest, isn’t much help when you’re dealing with a diaper emergency and desperately need a changing table). However, if you happen to be nearby, Balthasar is the perfect spot to stop for a really good coffee and maybe something sweet, or to grab something nice “to-go”. For the home baristas among you: Balthasar also offers their own house blend of coffee beans and a selection of coffee accessories.

Conclusion:

Balthasar Kaffee Bar in Vienna is a small but sleek coffee shop with a passion for quality coffee. The interior is limited in space but there is a larger patio outside for people-watching. The shop offers a selection of pastries and cakes, but no high chairs or changing tables are available. It is a great spot for a quick coffee and something sweet, or to grab something to go.
